Shortest Day Motivation

Hi to you all.  It is not long now and the days start getting longer again and we can build to spring time.  Many thanks for all the feedback for the website.  I hope that this post offers everyone out some kind of motivation, whether it is in the health or fitness or life balance area.  Keep smiling

Recipe of the Month

I found this recipe in one of the Healthy Food Magazines so I can not lay claim to this one – it was really easy to make and changing to gluten free flour did not affect the moistness of the loaf.  I substituted the ground almond for linseed, almond and sunflower mix to give it a great fibre and omega 3 boost.  Both kids loved it and when you are at the end of the grocery week – this does not take many ingrediants.

Raspberry Yoghurt Loaf

Cooking Oil Spray, 1 C Frozen raspberries, 1/2 C Brown Sugar, 2 Eggs lightly beaten, 3/4C low fat vanilla yoghurt, 1 and 3/4 C Self Raising Flour (I used the Simple Gluten Free Baking MIx), 1/3 C Ground Almonds.

Step 1 – Preheat Oven to 180 celsius

Step 2 – Combine all ingrediants into a large bowl and spoon into a greased and lined loaf tin

Step 3 – Bake for 50 minutes (mine took 40 minutes) – or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean – turn onto a wire rack and cool

Mid-Winter Motivation

The Winter Buddy

Get a good friend to work out with and set some goals together.  Those days that you do not feel like going – you wont want to let you buddy down and by the time you are finished your work out you will be pleased that you did go.  A buddy during the winter is great as we all know how easy it is to stay by the warm fire….. With your buddy plan your week so that you have pre thought any time barriers that may get in the way and then all you do is turn up – sounds easy – and will be if you take inspiration from each other and then plan to reward yourselves at the end of the month for getting out the cold and staying active – think ahead to spring time – you will be so much further along in your health and fitness rather than waiting for spring and then thinking "I better do something now".  The longer you take to achieve your goals and develop great work out habits the more life long routines and habits you create – we are all in this together for our own health and fitness for a life time and a good time.

Keep an eye out for events you and your buddy could do – for example the Mid Winter Indoor Triathlon on June 13th, the Hawkes Bay Multi Sport Very Low Key Duathlons, the Olympics challenges that are coming up – these are all designed to give you something to keep those motivation levels up.

Keep up the great work – from the team at Peak

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is one of the most important vitamins you can supply daily for you body.  It is a water soluble vitamin that can not be stored in the body and therefore needs to be replaced.  It plays a vital role in collagen levels, healing wounds, fighting infections and coping with stress.

Our local Naturopath – Eric Baker has developed his own formula for Vitamin C with the optimum ratio of Ascorbic Acid and Lemon Bioflavonoids.  His Daily C is gentle on the tummy and pH balanced which reduces excess acidity normally associated  with ascorbic acid.  This formula also includes the natural form of Vitamin E, water soluble Vitamin A as well as Zinc

Peak Fitness are lucky to be one of the exclusive suppliers of  of Daily C which is available at reception – you can also obtain at The Naturopaths in Havelock North.

GROUP FITNESS NEWS

A tip from Brenda and Jess and the Peak Group Fitness Team:

"Take a moment at the end of your day to acknowledge the things you did that day, praise/treat yourself and endulge in your favourite past time". It is all to easy to beat ourselves up for the things we didn't do! "

UP AND COMING EVENTS: Keep an eye out at the beginning of August for the Olympics Fitness Challenge - if you liked the Rugby World Cup this will be similar but different and even better - A great time to do a 16 day challenge to motivate you into Spring....

 A thought for the day:

"Never look down to test the ground before taking your next step; only he who keeps his eye fixed on the far horizon will find the right road"  Dag Hammarskjold

Group Fitness Magpies Launch

Mid Winter Magpies Launch 2008

2nd Quarterly Launch – Sunday June 8 2008   9.00am – 12.00
Theme – “C’mon the Bay” – supporting our local community and the HB Magpies

What a fantastic day we had, right from start to finish – 3 hours of fun!!

At 9.00am we started our our multi Mega class with 45mins of the new RPM #39. Sue and George cranked it up in full view of our members in the main area of the gym and poured it on. Lots of smiles, little performances and heaps of sweat was the name of the game and fun & hard work was shared by all.
From there we entered the Group Fitness room and Jess got the ball rolling with 3 tracks from Pump #66. The music was great and the performances were even better.!! Brenda, Sarah and Sharon got their feet and everyone else’s tapping to 3 tracks of Step and partied to “Footloose” and “Vogue” – popular songs from the 80′s and 90′s. Jess turned up the heat for the 1st Combat track and showed us her smooth style in the 2nd. Next was BodyJam and man, Dwayne got everyone into the dance scene. I have never seen so many hips and booty’s shaking it! Lots of laughter, lots of styles and lots of fun was had by all and we all impressed by someone who could move!!
Graeme and Charissa had the final say in a challenging, but peaceful few tracks of BodyBalance and brought us back from the high of Jam.
Our special guest on the day was Michael Johnson, from the HB Magpies. He stayed for the whole class and we were impressed with his strength in pump, skills in step and Jam and flexibility in Balance. We were hoping that a few more of the team could have attended, but due to training commitments, only MJ turned up.
We completed the day with a 2nd RPM class. Althought this class was not booked out, the passion and energy was there and once again Sue & George made the class rock!!

What a successful launch. Members came in black & white and fully participated in all of the programmes. We had approximately 40 -45 members attend, with 12 members in the first RPM class, approx. 30 people in the GF Room and a further 4/5 in the second RPM class. Most of our members stayed for the whole thing. I heard comments from members in the gym, (even Andy Curran, a personal trainer) who said she had never seen a RPM class before and enjoyed watching to see what it was all about. The music was cranked up and the atmosphere in the gym was pumping. The idea of keeping the bikes in the main gym area for the week to promote RPM was a great one and I am sure, our RPM classes will be booked out over the next few weeks. If not, all our members who were (in the gym), will be talking about it!! Everyone will be wanting to try out the new Enduro format that the latest RPM release is offering.

A fantastic team of instructors who thrive on bringing the new releases to life, make the Peak Fitness Launches successful and I know our members look forward to them. Bring on the next one – End of August, Early September!!

St Patricks Day 2008

Wow – what a St Patrick’s Day this year. Members entered the gym following the frog feet all the way into the Group Fitness Room with the St Pat’s message of 2008 from Jess and Brenda. Every class had little ‘leap’ challenges in the class and it was great to see the 50 plus ladies all decked out in green – from the hats and t shirts to green hair everywhere!! The spirit carried on into the evening with not a speck of any other colour but green anywhere. There were even members (I will refrain from names…..???) who were so committed they came to the 6am Pump Class and then made a quiet departure to the Famous Yearly Rose and Shamrock Irish St Pats Day Breakfast. Thanks to all those who made the effort to "Go Green" for the day – what will next year bring???
